My local RESOURCES
Most, if not all, riders on the PCT rely on a team of non-riders helping them with transport, re-stocking and horse care along the way. I will do the same and then some. These will come together as I get closer to actually doing each segment of the trip.
I will get in touch with local feed stores and equine bonding facilities in the areas I am focusing on to find most of these resources. I will need vets, farriers and good feed stores along the way. But I also hope to find a few other things.
My energy is not entirely predictable and I wish to plan into my trip the ability to abort any given excursion away from my base camp and stay in a real bed for a night or two, free from the care of my horses. I am sure I will need this kind of thing once in a while. I hope to contact someone willing to be hired to come get me and my horses and transport us to pre-arranged lodging and boarding facilities if I find myself in need of a serious or unexpected rest. I also hope to have a boarding facility selected about every 20 miles so that I might plan in particularly good rest - free from the need to care for my horses - for a few days every now and then.
I'll fill you in on how I found and managed my local resources as I get them.
