My Gear Choices
Gear Goals
The Gear I Chose To Bring
- Must be as lightweight as possible. I will have only 2 horses with me and they will need to carry their own as well as my gear and myself. Further, I am not able to life anything very heavy and become quickly fatigued if I need to lift anything over the level of my heart very often. Thus, I will often look at backpacking gear rather than traditional horse packing gear.
- I am also going to go minimalist in terms of the amount of gear I bring with me. My energy will be very spare by the end of a day or riding, and having to do extensive re-packing or camp set-up will not work for me. I will pick each item carefully.
- I will need to be super organized in order to take as little energy as possible when packing and re-packing my horses. It is one thing to be able to take 2 hours to organize things before a trip, but the second day in, when I am already pushing exhaustion, I will need to be able to go from waking up in my tent on the trail to packing up my horses and riding out with as little energy output as possible.
The Gear I Chose To Bring
- Backpacking Gear - my gear will mostly be focused on ultra light weight gear as is typically made for backpackers
- Horse Packing Gear - the horses will have their own needs and gear to meet those
- Dog Gear - my dog will also have his own gear
- Safety Gear - always a balance between minimalist gear and being prepared for anything
- Photography Gear - as one of my goals for this trip is to map and photography the trail extensively, I will need some photography gear.
