The Trailer
Make sure you have a working trailer with tires, hitch, electric breaks/lights and floorboards all in good condition. I highly recommend you have a mechanic look over your trailer before your trip to make sure there aren't any problems you don't know about. Make sure you have a spare tire with you and be sure to check the floorboards.

WARNING!: The floorboards of a trailer often spend decades covered by rubber matts, which you may have never removed to look under. Remove them now! Look under the mats and make sure the boards have not begun to rot. This can happen and it is the most horrific thing you can imagine (not to mention deadly to you, the people around you and your horses) when a trailer floor gives out on the interstate and a horse crashed through while going 60 miles per hour.

Once you've had the trailer inspected and tuned up for the long haul, make sure its license-plate is current and you have any insurance or registration information you may need on it.

Make sure to have with you...
- any paperwork for the trailer - registration, license plates up-to-date, insurance information, etc.
- a tire changing jack appropriate for lifting your sized trailer - we use a hydraulic one which works quite well.
- tire changing supplies -
- a spare tire for the trailer
The Truck
It's always a good idea to have your truck inspected prior to a long trip, especially when hauling horses. Have a mechanic look it over for any unknown problems, get a tune-up and check the tires. Then make sure you have a good spare tire and the equipment needed to change a tire on your own, if needed.
