Tansy

Common Tansy
Tanacetum vulgare
Perennial

These easy to spot plants are most common on roadsides and pastures. They bloom in July- September, and have yellow button like flowers growing in clusters at the top of the stems. With fern like leaves growing at the base of the plant and on the stem.
DESCRIPTION:

Flower
These unique flowers grow in bright yellow disks in broad flat clusters at the head of the stem. There can be multiple flowers per stem, around 3-5. The blooms themselves resemble buttons.
WHOLE PLANT:

Stem
The strong stem is 3-5 feet tall, with a red or purple tinge towards the bottom. The stem supports leaves growing all the way up, and then branches into numerous parts towards the top to support the flowers.
Leaves
These fern like leaves appear as grey-green. At the base of the plant they are very long, 8-12 inches, and half as wide. The leaves grow up the stem on opposing sides, and get smaller the higher up they go. The feathery leaves have fine, serrated edges.
Root
Tansy grows from rhizome roots.
WHERE TO FIND IT:

Its common to find these plants on roadsides, fields, and pastures. They also tend to grow in patches due to the rhizome roots.
WHEN TO FIND IT:

Blooming in July- September.
