Fireweed
Chamaenerion angustifolium
Perennial Herb
Perennial Herb
DESCRIPTION
It can be 2-3 feet tall but I have seen patches of it reach taller than a rider on a horse as well.
Flower
The blooms are bright pink or magenta colored and there can be over 50 little blooms on one stalk forming that cone shape. Each bloom is made of four petals alternating between four small and narrow petals. The petals all form around a cluster of white rods that hold seed sacks at the end. These seeds grow silky hairs that disperse at the end of the season.

WHERE TO FIND IT:
This plant loves disturbed soil and ash. Thus, it commonly covers an area after a forest fire has come through. It grows in meadows, roadsides, alongside creeks, and throughout the forests.
